Today started off like any other day - or should I say any other day since the arrival of our English Springer Spaniel puppy who is now 5 months old. Lying in bed reminiscing about the days when the school holidays meant lots of late nights and no early mornings. Now it involves being on alert for the sound of a puppy rattling the back door to request a tiddle & a bowl of food. God, give me a newborn baby any day of the week. Those were the days. Just stick a dummy in for an extra half hour of blissful peace & quiet.
My poser of the day is this - why is it that Brits abroad spend their whole time bitching about all the other Brits, trying to outdo them & keeping up the constant pretence that they are extremely busy, life couldn't be better & they are raking in the euros by the thousands? Were they all like this when they lived in England too - my memory seems to fail me on this one. I stupidly thought that the reason we came to live in another country was to escape all the keeping up with the Jones's and such other nonsense. Took a wander down the village market this morning to give the once over to the same old tosh I viewed last week and the week before, just in case a fashion item post 1980 had managed to sneak its way onto the rails. While meandering along the cobbles, I bumped into a fellow expat running a bar and enquired about the state of the English Breakfast trade. Needless to say, they couldn't get the bangers into the fryer quick enough to keep up with demand. I should add that this statement was made as the tumbleweed rolled through the bar! Why is it that nobody can admit "jeez business is slack at the moment"???
Anyway, this is my first blog so don't want to ramble on aimlessly & dog, hubby & child have just returned from stroll down the country lane so I'd better look busy!!
